DoFollow Blogs - Do You Follow Or Don’t Follow?
“Dofollow” is a popular buzzword right now in the blogging world. It refers to “dofollow” blogs, where the blog you are commenting on will pass on its backlink power. Most blogs are automatically set to “nofollow”, which means that if you comment on a nofollow blog with, say, a Google Pagerank of 8, Google itself will not give your backlink to your own blog any weighting.
However, with a dofollow blog, the opposite is true. If the same blog with a Google Pagerank of 8 was “dofollow”, then your backlink to your own blog would increase in weighting with Google, possibly pushing your blog higher up the search engines.
There are very few blogs out there with their status set to dofollow, and there are articles springing up on the net with lists of dofollow blogs for you to comment on to increase your link juice. In fact, I recently came across a search engine which includes submissions for dofollow blogs exclusively.
At this point, you may be thinking that it’s a great idea to go chasing these dofollow blogs and write comments on them to increase your backlink weight. After all, thousands of other bloggers are doing the same, so why shouldn’t you? I’ll tell you why…..
Dofollow Blogs Are A Spammers Haven
When someone makes their blog dofollow, word spreads fairly quickly, especially if it’s a blog with a decent Google Pagerank. Before long, the comments sections are filled with comments along the lines of “great blog, here’s my site [insert site here]” or “I like your article [insert site here]“. Basically, the majority of comments on dofollow blogs reek of self-promotion. I advocate commenting on other blogs in a meaningful fashion, i.e. leave comments which genuinely add to the original article. Maybe I’m in the moral minority, but I’m not going to go chasing dofollow blogs for the purpose of gaining a single backlink. My time can be spent more productively.
Treat Other Bloggers With Respect
If you’ve really enjoyed reading someone elses article, and you’d like to leave a comment, then great. If that particular blog happens to be a dofollow blog, then even better. But in the end, don’t go commenting on a dofollow blog for the sole purpose of getting a juicy backlink. The author has taken the time to put together an article, and I’m not going to disrespect that by ignoring what he / she has written. There are exceptions to this, i.e. if the blog post is actively encouraging people to comment for the purpose of a backlink, but other than this, treat the blogger with respect. Don’t take advantage of your fellow bloggers.
Concentrate Your Time On Other Promotional Strategies
There are literally hundreds of different ways to promote your blog, so if you really must zone in on commenting on dofollow blogs, don’t become obsessed by it. By commenting on other blogs which may or may not be dofollow, you’re still gaining a backlink. How much further up the search engine rankings you’ll go by commenting on a dofollow blog is anyones guess, but here’s mine - a couple of places in the search engines isn’t exactly going to explode your blog traffic.
Dofollow blogs will improve your backlink weighting, I’m not denying that, but in my opinion I’d rather concentrate my efforts on other blog promotion strategies. Don’t get caught up in the hype, just carry on commenting on interesting articles as usual. If it happens to be a dofollow blog, then great. If it’s not, don’t lose any sleep over it.

This is so true. I’ve found that when I had doFollow, more than 90% of my comments were spam. Once I disabled it, more and more of my comments were truthful comments from actual readers.
I don’t really like the doFollow plugin. Its not worth the trouble.
Thanks for your comment.
Your experience sounds typical of what happens when dofollow is activated. Hopefully your website will attract higher quality comments with nofollow.
All the best,
John.

I use (mostly) do follow because I don’t care about back-links enough to be worried… however, I DO use anti-spam techniques such as comment moderation or verification (I use different methods on different blogs).
I also comment regardless of the back-link status - I visited your blog because you left a comment on mine - that’s more important to me than back-links….
Is simple guys. Just moderate your comments and use dofollow plugin to get the users to comment. I have several blogs and all are ok with this techniques … Also you can use a simple “captcha” like ” 1+3 = ?” for antispam protection
