5 Ways To Improve The Quality Of Your Blog Posts

This blog post will address the issue of ways to improve the quality of your blog posts.  It’s a good idea to take a step back from your blog every now and again, and read the posts you’ve already published.  By doing this, you’ll be able to spot ways in which to tweak your previous posts, in order to improve them in terms of readability, quality and search engine optimization.

As your blogging journey continues, and your post count has increased to a respectable number, you’ll invariably become better at writing your blog posts.  The more you post, the better you’ll get, and I guarantee that you’ll find areas within your previous blog posts which can be improved upon.

When I look at my previous posts, there are many ways in which I can see, straight away, ways to improve the quality of my blog posts.  Here’s a quick list of different areas which you can tweak in order to improve your blog post quality:

1 - List The Points You Are Making

You might realise that, in your previous blog posts, the points you were making were explained in separate paragraphs, or ran on within only one paragraph.  A good way to improve the readability of a particular blog post is to list the points you are making.  This will give your readers an easier way of digesting the information you are providing.  By using bullet points, readers can ‘zoom in’ on the most important areas of your blog post, adding value to the experience.

2 - Split Longer Paragraphs Into Shorter Ones

It’s hard work on the eyes to read a blog where the paragraphs consist of 10 or more lines at a time.  A quick and easy way to improve the quality and readability of a blog post is to split longer paragraphs into shorter, easier to read ones.  Leave clear spaces between them for an improved user experience.

3 - Become More Concise

I sometimes have a tendency to ramble on within blog posts, and when this happens, there’s a danger of going off-topic.  I’m sure I’m not the only person guilty of this, so have a look over your previous posts, and see if you can make them more to-the-point, which will improve your audiences experience whilst on your blog.

4 - Tweak Your Blog Posts For SEO Optimization

As you write more and more blog posts, you should be getting into the habit of optimizing your posts in terms of keyword density.  So take a little time to go over previous posts and see if you can improve the keyword density for each post.  Experiment a little, if you feel your keywords aren’t in your posts enough, then add a liberal dose and see what the effect is within the search engines.  This will take a little time to see the effects, but you’re in it for the long haul anyway, and there’s no harm in a bit of keyword trial and error.

5 - Provide Updates To Older Blog Posts

Unless you content is timeproof (i.e. your blog posts are relevant and will always be relevant) then you may need to go over previous posts and update them with new content.  A good way to do this is to add your updates to the end of your blog posts, underneath a heading along the lines of “UPDATE AS OF DD/MM/YY”.  This will show your audience that you are committed to keeping your blog content fresh and up to date.  It also ensures that when readers arrive at that particular blog post, they aren’t getting out of date (and possibly inaccurate) information.

I’m sure you can think of many more ways to improve the quality of your blog posts, and if I’ve missed any then let me know of them in the comments section below.  The five methods outlined above are easy to implement, and the great thing is you can take as long as you like to do it.  If your blog posts are of a good standard to begin with, then any tweaks you make to them can be seen as an added bonus, which will improve the overall quality of your blog to an even higher level.

  5. I like these tips, I’ve actually been using them since the beginning by logic. But this should be helpful to very inexperienced bloggers.

  6. Thanks for the feedback Andre.

I find it helpful to mentally ‘check off’ these points when I’m looking to create a new blog post, or tweak older ones.

Hopefully newer bloggers can take these tips on board, it’ll benefit both the readers and the blog itself.

    All the best,

    John.
