Republishing Blog Content - Don’t Do It!

Staying with the theme of quality, original blog content, I’ve came across an increasing number of blogs which are simply republishing blog content, word for word.  I’m sure you don’t need me to tell you how many times this has happened, as no doubt you’ve experienced the same while surfing for blog traffic tips.

I understand people doing this, as there are a number of original articles out there which are essentials for building your blog traffic.  But the thing is, I keep coming across the same articles, verbatim, over and over again on different blogs.  I’m pretty sure I’ll never forgot to “write at last 5 pillar articles for my blog”…..

This ’spread’ of information is a great thing from the original authors point of view, as every blogger who re-publishes the original work should be providing, at the very least, a link back to the original authors blog or website.  But how much kudos, or reputation, does republishing blog content give the republisher?

The advice I’d like to give you is that, if you want to pass on any great article you have read online to your own readers, then don’t republish that article word for word.  Talk about the article you’d like to pass on to your audience, and provide your own opinions on the original article.  Then include a link or two to the original article within your own blog post.

This will do three things for your own blog:

Provide An Understanding Of The Subject Matter

First, it will show your readers that you have made an effort to read and fully understand the original article.  By providing your own feedback for the original article, you are maintaining your own unique style of blogging, instead of the ‘copy-and-paste’ approach that a lot of blogs seem to enjoy.

Create Fresh And Unique Blog Content

Secondly, you are writing original blog content for your blog, based on someone elses content.  Now, I don’t profess to knowing search engine algorithms inside out, but I’m pretty sure that each time you place duplicate content within your blog, the search engines won’t exactly fall over themselves to index it.  Make sure you’re writing fresh content, and you’ll have a better chance of ranking higher in the search engines.

Give Authentic Praise To The Original Author

By providing your own opinion on the original article, and taking the time to tell your readers why they should read it, you are providing the original author with a genuine appraisal of his work.  If someone were to copy and paste one of my articles onto their own blog, without any mention of what they think of it, my immediate reaction would be to think “Are they using my article to simply juice up their own blog, or because they actually like it?“.

So if you plan on providing your blogging audience with someone elses fantastic piece of work, then instead of simply republishing the content on your own blog, take the time to write an appraisal of it and provide links to the original article.  Keep your blog content original, and stand out from the majority.
