Made The Switch To Wordpress!

Well, it’s something I promised myself I would do for the past 3 or 4 weeks, and I’ve finally done it, I’ve made the switch to Wordpress from Blogger.  So apologies for the distinct lack of posts over the past week or so, I’ve been busy with the administration of the switch to Wordpress.

I hope that my blog is now easier to use and navigate around.  I’ve finally plumped for the Pro-sense Wordpress theme, which (in my opinion) looks and feels great.

I also feel that, compared to Blogger, the variety of themes available to use with Wordpress is staggering.  I’ve been ’shopping’ for free Wordpress themes, trying out the different themes etc etc for the past few days, the choice out there is mind-blowing!  So a big thanks to all those who take the time to create the many free Wordpress themes available for download, without your technical know-how and creativeness I don’t know where we’d be!

I’ve also bought my own web space through the web hosting company Bluehost.  So now I own my own web space, which wasn’t the case with Blogger, who own the space you use for your Blogger blog.

Making the switch to Wordpress wasn’t as painful as I thought it would be either.  With Bluehost, there is the option to install Wordpress quickly and painlessly through a function called Fantastico Deluxe.  Now I’m not the most technically-minded of persons, and so I was naturally cautious of things like MySQL databases, FTP etc etc, but I’ve found that to be quite manageable, and not as scary as I first thought.

Then there are the Wordpress ‘plug-ins’ which have to be activated, and again, I found this quite easy to do.  It’s a simple case of unzipping the files to your desktop, uploading them to your database, then logging in to your Wordpress admin area and ‘voila’ there you have it!!

All in all, I feel that makng the switch to Wordpress will turn out to be a very positive one.  There are many forums online (not least the official Wordpress forum) where there is support available for guys like me who may need a little assistance along the way.  So many people are using Wordpress that the issues I may come across have already been covered and explained by someone online, it’s just a case of Googling my queries to find the answers.
