How To Get More Search Engine Traffic
In this blog post, I will look at the different ways to get more search engine traffic to your blog. The organic route to blog traffic is one which requires patience, but over time you should reap the benefits of sustained search engine traffic.
Think about your potential audience from their perspective. If someone was looking for ways to get more search engine traffic, what would they be most likely to type into the search bar in Google? Probably phrases along the lines of:
“get more search engine traffic”
“how to get more search engine traffic”
“ways to increase search engine traffic“
Now that you’ve thought about the types of phrases that people would use for this type of information, use a free keyword tool like Wordtracker or the Google Keyword Tool, to check and see how many people are typically using these phrases within the search engines. Using this process, I decided to tailor this blog post towards the phrase “get more search engine traffic”.
When using this method, try to use between 3 and 5 words in your keyphrase. Advantages to using this length of keyphrase include:
Your Keyphrase Will Be Specific
By making your keyphrase between 3 and 5 words in length, you are being as specific as possible. The people who type your keyphrase into a search engine will almost certainly be looking for exactly the kind of information you have published, leading to lower bounce rates when people arrive at your article.
Less Competition For Longer Keyphrases
The longer your keyphrase is, the less competition there will be in the search engines. For example, at the time of writing, when I typed “search engine traffic” (without the “”) into the Google search bar, it returned 1,750,000 results. When I typed in “get more search engine traffic”, it returned 440,000 results. Okay, it’s still a lot of results, but it’s only around a quarter of the results for the “search engine traffic” search. Less results equals less competition.
So, once you’ve decided on your keyphrase, how many times should you use it within your article? There is a fine balance between optimizing your blog posts for search engines, and keeping your content readable for your audience. I’d certainly recommend inserting your keyphrase in both your first and last paragraphs. In your first paragraph, try and use it within the first sentence, to give it more importance.
Also, sprinkle your keyphrase throughout the rest of your article, around once every one or two paragraphs, and use variations of the keyphrase in other places. This will keep your article readable for your audience, whilst at the same time letting the search engines know exactly what your article is about.
Hopefully, by reading this blog post, you’ve realised that it’s important to think about your keyphrases before writing your articles. By tailoring your keyphrase for each of your articles, you’ll get more search engine traffic converging on your blog, and when people do arrive at your blog, they’ll be more inclined to stay if the information you are providing is exactly what they are looking for.
