Blog Post Length - What’s Yours?
When you are writing your posts for your blog, do you take into consideration the length of your posts, and what the optimum blog post length is? Actually, do you keep in mind the length of your blog posts before you publish? Would you be happy publishing short and snappy posts of around 100 words or so, or do you prefer to write long and detailed posts of over 500 / 600 words?
There are certainly merits to publishing different lengths of blog posts. For example, if I publish a blog post recommending another article I have read on someone elses blog (with a link pointing towards it), I may only need to write around 100 or so words. On the flip side, if I was to write a ‘how-to’ article, with detailed technical information, I may need a few hundred words (500+) to cover the subject matter.
The majority of my blog posts, however, are between 250 and 450 words in length. This gives me enough ‘room’ to fully expand on the subject matter at hand. I also think that this gives the search engines enough to go on, i.e. they will understand the subject of my post, as I have used my key phrase (and variations of it) enough times within the post. As a general rule, if my blog posts are greater than 400 words in length, I ask myself “Can I split this post into two separate posts?” It’s easy when you’re writing a blog post to meander into different subjects, so it’s an idea to take a step back to make sure you’re staying on topic.
It’s also important to look at the length of your blog posts from your readers point of view. There’s a chance that by making your blog posts too long, your readers may lose interest in what you’ve written. Try to be as concise as possible when constructing your posts, and your audience will thank you for it, so keep in mind your blog post length before you go ahead and publish.

Thanks I was wondering how long to make my posts for maximum effectiveness. Lots of good entertaining information.
I just have to post again and say thanks. I was writing an article for my other blog http://www.GrandOpeningHelp.com on kids meals and was able to break 1 article up into 3 post. I realized that the topic was best broken up into small posts. I following your advice and keeping it to about 250-300 in length. Thanks again.
Speaking of building traffic, I create a unique wire name promotional item at trade shows, corporate events and private parties.
I am a fantastic trade show and event traffic builder.
My wire names are a very unique addition that attracts lots of attention and, unlike other traffic builders, I create 40 to 50 wire names per hour, bringing in 40 to 50 potential clients per hour. Also, unlike other favors, my wire names last forever.
Take a look at my site and give me a call.
Let’s do some business together.
Thank you,
