Internal Links In Blog Posts

We all know that by having incoming links to your blog from other blogs / websites, there is a higher chance of your own blog being crawled by the search engine spiders. The spiders will generally follow links from each webpage they land on, so having incoming links is crucial in being crawled and indexed by search engines.

There’s a great way to get links pointing towards your own blog pages, and this is by using internal links within your own blog posts! For example, this blog post is concerned with using internal links, but if I happened to mention blog content within this post, then I can link to one of my older posts entitled blog content. See what I did there? If you click on the hyperlinks in the last sentence, you will be taken to one of my previous blog posts.

So if the search engine spiders arrive at this blog post, they will follow the internal link into my ‘blog content’ post. By doing this, there’s a much higher chance of all your blog posts being crawled and indexed by those crafty spiders!

It works even better in reverse, i.e. if you’ve written a new blog post, then create an internal link to it in one of your older blog posts. This will increase the chances of your new blog post(s) being picked up by the search engines.

All (or most) of your blog posts should interconnect with each other through internal links. Another good reason to do this is that, if someone is reading your blog post and comes across a hyperlink within the post to another one of your posts, they might click it and read your other post. This helps to keep your readers on your blog for longer.

So make sure you use internal links within your blog posts, it creates different paths for the spiders to find your blog posts, and makes blog surfing easier for your audience!
