Commenting On Other Blogs
Commenting on other blogs and websites can bring enormous benefits to your blog if done in the correct manner. Benefits of blog commenting include:
- Increasing your blog presence;
- Raising your awareness of different subjects, and;
- Creating valuable backlinks to your blog.
By commenting on other blogs, you are making both the blog owner and his / her reader base aware of your presence. You should try your hardest to leave well thought-out comments on other blogs based on the post which you are commenting on. It may be okay to leave one-line comments like “Good post!” or “I like your blog!” but some blog owners may see this as comment spamming, i.e. you are only leaving a comment because you want your link to your blog to appear on their blog.
For what it’s worth, I don’t mind someone leaving a short and sweet comment on my blog posts, as my blog is quite new and it’s confirmation that people are actually finding my blog! However, if I saw a one-line comment on my blog saying something like “Come visit my blog at (insert blog address here)”, I would most likely delete it without any qualms.
It’s also a good idea to visit the other blogs and websites related to your blog subject, to see what others are talking about. If I’m reading someone else’s blog and like what I’m reading, I will try to interact with them through the comments section at the bottom of the post. I will also Digg or Stumble someone’s blog or website if I come across a really good article or post.
I like to look at it like this – if I can add an interesting comment to someone else’s blog, my reward is a backlink to my own blog! By leaving interesting comments, people may be more likely to click through your link and read your blog. And by reading, understanding and expanding on other blog posts, you’re learning more about your specialist subject at the same time, so it’s a win-win situation!
