Build Your Blog Traffic With Blogging Rules
So far, I have created blog posts around the many different areas in which you can improve and build your blog traffic. There is, however, a big question that looms large over these blog posts, and that question is:
“How do you incorporate all of these different blog traffic building techniques? How do they work in tandem with each other?”
Well, there’s no problem with using the many blog traffic techniques on a sporadic level, and if that helps you to build your reader base, then great! But if you take a little bit of time and create a ‘blog timetable’ then there may be a greater chance that your blog traffic will grow a little quicker, as you are focussing your promotional efforts on one specific activity at a set time. Creating a blog timetable may also help improve your discipline, in terms of sticking to your traffic-building tasks.
What do I mean by a blog timetable? Well, take the 3 main components (in my humble opinion) of blog traffic building, as follows:
- Writing Blog Content;
- Article Marketing;
- Commenting on other blogs.
Over the space of any given week, I try my best to adhere to the following set of blog rules:
- Write and publish 5 new blog posts, preferably each day from Monday to Friday;
- Expand on one of my blog posts from the week, create an article from it and submit it to the various popular article directories;
- Leave valuable comments on other blogs and websites as and when I receive Google Alerts within my chosen subject of ‘blog traffic’.
I also have a set of sub-rules for my blog. They are not as strict and may happen on a more sporadic basis. They include (but are in no way limited to):
- Reviewing the overall layout of my blog, making changes as appropriate;
- Going back over previous blog posts and looking for ways to improve them, in terms of content quality and search engine optimization;
- Updating my ‘related blog posts’ at the bottom of each post;
- Reviewing my blog traffic stats using Google Analytics;
- Submitting selected blog posts to Digg;
- Using plugboards on other blogs and websites to promote my blog.
So, I have 3 strict rules for my blog which I strive to achieve, and underneath those, I have around 4 or 5 sub-rules which I try to follow, but not in any particular order. There are other blogging activities which I will indulge in, but for the purposes of this blog post do not warrant a mention in my rules or sub-rules.
Of course, your opinion of what is most important for your blog will most likely be different from mine, but the principle of this post remains, i.e. decide what is most important for building blog traffic and include them in your must-follow blog rules. Then decide on the next ‘tier’ of blogging rules, and try to follow those in a less rigid manner than your main blogging rules.
By approaching your blog traffic building efforts in this manner, you’ll have a far greater chance of creating a high-quality, highly popular blog over the medium and long term.
