I’ve talked about the importance of having great blog content, which keeps your avid readers coming back for more! But the way in which you present the content will also be a huge factor in terms of your blog success. Things to think about for your blog ‘look and feel’ include:

- Font type;
- Font size;
- Font colour;
- Background colour.

A lot of blogs and websites out there use the Verdana font, as it’s widely recognised as one of the more user-friendly fonts, i.e. it’s easy on the eye for the reader. This is the font type that I use on my blog. Font colour and size are also important considerations for your blog. I’d say around 90% of blogs use the default black font, which is entirely understandable as this is the norm. Font size is a big consideration, as your readers will be using different screen resolutions to view your blog. For example, too small a font, and someone using the 1280 x 1024 resolution may find it a struggle to read your blog posts.

I’d say that the background colour of your blog post area is the most important factor to think about. I’ve came across a few blogs with unconventional colour schemes, like black backgrounds and green font colours. Now there’s nothing wrong with expressing your individuality through your blog, and maybe others enjoy the uniqueness of it. But I feel that if you’re trying to convey information to your readers, then it’s best if you make the whole experience as comfortable as possible for them, and for me that means the ‘classical’ look and feel.
