Article Directories - Quality Over Quantity?

In one of my previous posts on article marketing, I provided a list of article directories where you could submit your articles. Over the last few weeks, I have refined the list of article directories which I use. I now use the following article directories (each link opens in a new window):

Article Nexus
Article Dashboard
Article Cube
Ezine Articles
Article Sphere
Easy Articles

So why am I using less article directories than I was originally? Well, I feel that the ‘quality over quantity’ approach is better for my article submissions. I would rather submit my articles to 5 or 6 high-quality, high traffic article directories, than use dozens upon dozens of directories, regardless of how obscure they are.

The article directories I am using now all have decent traffic levels too. I can tell this by the number of people who are reading my submitted articles, I simply log in to my accounts and check my article statistics. I think it’s better to get consistent traffic to my blog from the few articles directories I am using, rather than traffic ‘drips’ from a whole load of article directories.

This may also help my blog in terms of search engine weighting. As far as I am aware, the search engines don’t like the exact same article posted dozens of times on different blogs and websites, they prefer less article ‘impressions’ on higher weighted websites. I may be wrong here, but that’s the way I see it.

The article directories listed above also have decent Google Pagerank, which is another important factor in my decision to use them. The higher number of quality backlinks from article directories I have pointing towards my blog, the more chance there is that my blog will rank higher in the search engines.
