A great way to generate traffic to your blog is by writing articles and submitting them to the many article directories online. For example, I have just written an article (around 750 words) on the subject of plugboards, and am currently in the process of signing up with a few article directories in order to submit my article for publishing. Once my plugboard article has been approved for publishing by the directories, they will display it within their directories.

This is a fantastic way to advertise your blog. Most article directories have a resource box which you can use to provide a link to your blog. This resource box is displayed at the bottom of every article you write, and so if your article is approved, your blog link will appear within the article directory, creating an incoming link to your blog from a website with medium to heavy traffic. If you submit an article for approval to 20 article directories, your incoming link to your blog will appear within 20 directories, adding further weight to your blog in terms of SEO (search engine optimisation).

There is another benefit to writing articles for directory submission. If your articles are well written, interesting, and give the reader the information they are looking for, they will more than likely click through to your blog from your link in the aforementioned resource box. By writing informative articles, you have a great chance to be viewed on as an authority within the subject you have chosen to write about, further enhancing your credibility.

But wait, there’s even more good news! Most article directories allow their readers to re-publish the articles held, as long as your resource box immediately follows the article! What does this mean? My friend, it means that if someone reads your article, likes it, and wants to re-publish it on their own blog / website, they have to include your link to your blog underneath! This is fantastic news for an article writer, and is great motivation to create a well-written article. Imagine writing an article, getting it published in a directory, and 100 folk love it so much that they re-publish it on their own blog / website? That’s 100 incoming links to your blog! How many people will click through to your blog from these incoming links? How many people who read your article elsewhere will want to re-publish it on their own blog? The mind boggles!
