Blog Layout - The 3 Column Conundrum

When I first created my blog, I used one of the blog layout templates which are provided by blogger. I’m fairly confident that the vast majority of new bloggers will plump for one of the 16 blog templates, as by using them you can quickly get your blog up and running.

This is no bad thing. However, what has happened is that a lot of blog layouts you come across have much the same look and feel. Now there’s absolutely nothing wrong with this. In fact, it may even have inadvertently helped to create a mindset with blog viewers, whereby anyone reading a blog will instinctively know where to look for the information they are after. But if you feel that you would like to change the layout of your blog (in terms of number of columns, column width etc) then you may be restricted – unless you’re comfortable with jumping into the HTML codes behind the blog. I know I’m not, and I’m sure I’m not alone!

Whilst surfing the net at work (on my own time, honestly…) I stumbled upon a blog which has a fantastic section on how to add an extra column to your 2-columned blog. It provides a dummies guide (which is great for me) to adding an extra column, and takes you through, step – by – step, the process involved. The end result? You’ll see my blog layout now has 3 columns, one on each side of this one. I feel this layout gives the page greater balance, and is a little bit easier on the eye (content aside haha!).

The blog I used is called Tips For New Bloggers, and it provides a guide on how to add that elusive third column for most of the templates that are provided by blogger. If you’re thinking of changing your blog layout and adding an extra column, then go have a look and see what you think!
